We posted a blog called “5 Fast Facts About Cosmetic Surgery” to shed some light on popular plastic surgery procedures and their impact on the economy. With the 2014 calendar year coming to a close, the team at Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery wanted to continue this reflection and delve into what plastic surgery procedures have impacted this past year the most. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released data on last year’s (2013) plastic surgery trends, and the results can be seen below:

1.7 Million Cosmetic Procedures Were Surgical

The industry saw a three percent increase in surgical cosmetic procedures this past year, but this number was still significantly lower than the number of individuals who elected to have minimally invasive or non-surgical procedures. The top five surgeries included 290,224 breast augmentations, 221,053 rhinoplasties, 215,641 eyelid surgeries, 199,817 liposuctions, and 133,320 facelifts. The number of breast augmentations performed in the U.S. has increased by 37 percent since the year 2000 and when it came to the type of breast implants patients wanted, patients preferred silicone (72%) over saline implants (28%).

13.4 Million Cosmetic Procedures Were Minimally-Invasive/Non-Surgical

As alluded to previously, last year saw a large number of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. The top five minimally invasive surgeries included 6.3 million Botulinum Toxin Type A* injections, 2.2 million soft tissue fillers, 1.2 million chemical peels, 1.1 million laser hair removal procedures, and 970,343 microdermabrasion treatments. Soft tissue fillers increased by 13 percent with hyaluronic acid driving the soft tissue filler trend, contributing to an 18 percent growth. Furthermore, Botulinum Toxin Type A* injections increased by 3 percent, and the minimally invasive cosmetic industry as a whole saw a 144 percent increase since the year 2000.

Lastly, roughly 5.7 million reconstructive procedures were performed last year, a 2 percent increase since 2012. The industry has seen incredible growth overall, and market research has indicated this trend (plastic surgery) will continue to rise. Back to Overview

A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming in so many ways. There are a lot of emotions. Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and his entire staff put me at ease at every step. After surgery, I was very self conscious, and the way I was treated with each visit helped me as much as the excellent medical care. Whether it is for an elective procedure or a surgery due to illness, I cannot endorse Dr. Ali more as a physician and human.
