At Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery, the surgery team performs all of the most common plastic surgery procedures in addition to those procedures that may be less common. According the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in 2013, Americans spent the largest amount of money on cosmetic surgery procedures since the recession of 2008.

In 2013, which is the most current data set, over 11 million cosmetic procedures were performed, and this includes both surgical and nonsurgical procedures. This data is slightly skewed, as it includes data from procedures performed by plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and otolaryngologists (ENTs) in the United States. These procedures were at a monetary total of more that 12 billion dollars. Of that, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that more than 7 billion was spent on surgical procedures, while more than 5 billion was spent on nonsurgical procedures. While there are a variety of surgeries performed, there are five that are the most common:

Liposuction – The most common procedure, at approximately 364,000 procedures performed in 2013. This procedure can be used to treat areas of stubborn fat pockets that have not been reduced with traditional diet and exercise.

Breast Augmentation – At the second most common procedure, approximately 313,000 were performed in 2013. Breast augmentation uses implants to create a larger, fuller breast or improve overall breast symmetry.

Eyelid Surgery – Also known as blepharoplasty, or an eyelid lift, this surgery was the third most popular and approximately 161,000 procedures were performed in 2013. Eyelid lifts can both improve the appearance of the eyelids and can help if the patient is suffering from vision issues due to sagging skin around the eyes.

Tummy Tuck – Also known as an abdominoplasty, tummy tucks were the fourth most popular procedure and accounted for approximately 160,000 surgeries in 2013. A tummy tuck removes excess fat and skin around the abdominal area and can be used to tighten skin and muscle that has not been affected by a controlled diet and exercise program.

Nose Surgery – Known also as rhinoplasty, nose surgeries were the fifth most common, and accounted for approximately 148,000 procedures in 2013. Nose surgeries can be cosmetic to improve the look of the nose, and can also be used to correct breathing that is impaired by a deviated septum or injuries to the nose.

Back to Overview

A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming in so many ways. There are a lot of emotions. Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and his entire staff put me at ease at every step. After surgery, I was very self conscious, and the way I was treated with each visit helped me as much as the excellent medical care. Whether it is for an elective procedure or a surgery due to illness, I cannot endorse Dr. Ali more as a physician and human.
