If you’re dissatisfied with the size, shape, and overall look of your backside, you can get a buttock augmentation procedure. One such procedure, called a Brazilian butt lift, uses fat grafting to your butt for permanent volume and shape enhancement. If you’re considering buttock augmentation, you should know what to expect.

There are certain factors that are important to buttock augmentation. These include the size and shape of your buttocks, the amount of body fat available, your goals and activity level, and the quality and elasticity of your skin.

What Happens During Fat Grafting or Brazilian Butt Lift?

The following steps are common during fat grafting or a Brazilian butt lift:

Step 1 – Anesthesia: General anesthesia or intravenous sedation are offered to you before your surgery.
Step 2 – Liposuction: Dr. Mosharrafa harvests excess body fat from one or many deposits around the body, such as the thighs, stomach, or hips.
Step 3 – Fat injection: The fat and any other substances removed through liposuction are processed and purified so that the fat can be re-injected into the buttocks through small injections.
Step 4 – See the results: Although the results of your surgery are immediate, it takes time for your body to adapt to the new fat found in the buttocks. This method is natural, but over time, some of the initial volumes will decrease as the fat is absorbed by your body. Once this process is done, the results are permanent.

What Happens During Butt Lift Procedures?

A butt lift often requires extensive incisions. The length of those incisions depends on how much excess skin needs to be removed and the location of that skin. Fortunately, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mosharrafa has the ability to ensure that the incisions are virtually invisible when the patient is wearing most clothing and swimsuits.

A butt lift commonly involves the following steps:

Step 1 – Anesthesia: General anesthesia or intravenous sedation is offered prior to the surgery.
Step 2 – The incision: Incisions are commonly made below the waistline along with an incision typically used for abdominoplasty. Liposuction may also be involved for added contouring. Another option Dr. Mosharrafa may use is to make an incision between the buttocks and upper thigh. Excess skin and tissue are removed.
Step 3 – Closing the incisions: The incisions are closed with sutures, skin adhesives, tapes, or clips.
Step 4 – See the results: The results of a butt lift are almost immediately noticeable, but it can take three to six months for the tissue to settle. It may take as long as two years for the incision line to begin to fade.
