Your nose is one of the central features on your face, and it has a significant impact on your appearance. In many instances, subtle alterations to the size or shape of your nose can dramatically change your overall appearance. If you experience self-consciousness due to your nose, you are not alone. Fortunately, a rhinoplasty procedure can help create better overall facial harmony and help you look your very best.

Why Choose Rhinoplasty?

Often, nose surgery is performed to improve the overall balance of your facial features, not simply to improve the appearance of your nose. In some instances, the most effective way to achieve this facial harmony is to make subtle enhancements to your chin as well. When appropriate, Dr. Ali and Dr. Tamir may recommend chin augmentation at the same time as rhinoplasty for best results.

Dr. Ali and Dr. Tamir can perform rhinoplasty to address a variety of aesthetic concerns with your nose, including:

  • Size and width
  • Irregular shape
  • Large, wide, or droopy tip
  • Crookedness
  • Wide or narrow nostrils
  • Broken nose

While nose surgery is most commonly performed for aesthetic purposes, a functional rhinoplasty can also be performed to improve breathing that is adversely impacted by a deviated septum. In either case, your plastic surgeon will take the time to ensure your nose is structurally sound and functioning as it should.

Am I a Candidate?

Anyone who is interested in changing the appearance of their nose can be a candidate for rhinoplasty. Dr. Ali and Dr. Tamir perform a large number of nose surgery procedures on men and women, teenagers and young adults, and patients of a variety of ethnicities. Dr. Ali and Dr. Tamir also perform nose surgery on patients who have suffered prior nasal trauma.

In general, ideal rhinoplasty candidates:

  • Are in good general health
  • Have a fully matured nose
  • Would like to make changes to the appearance of their nose
  • Have realistic expectations

While there is no ideal age to undergo rhinoplasty, a key factor is that your nose is fully developed. While this age is different for everyone, it typically occurs during your teenage years– usually around age 16 for boys and age 14-15 for girls. The reason for this is that many of the size and shape concerns you may experience during your teenage years may go away on their own.

Your Customized Rhinoplasty Procedure

Since the goal of rhinoplasty is to achieve greater facial harmony and an improved appearance, Dr. Ali and Dr. Tamir will customize your procedure to address your unique facial features and aesthetic goals.

In general, there are two different rhinoplasty techniques. You will discuss each one and your options during a consultation at our Phoenix office.

Open Rhinoplasty

During this type of rhinoplasty, an incision is made across the columella, or soft tissue between the nostrils. As the name implies, this allows the nose to be pulled back and ‘opened’ to reveal the supportive structures underneath. This technique allows for the most substantial correction but will produce minimally visible scarring.

Closed Rhinoplasty

During a closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made within the nostrils. This offers the benefits of no visible scarring but can be a more complicated procedure since your plastic surgeon is not able to easily see the underlying structures.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Dr. Ai and Dr. Tamir will provide all your follow-up care personally, including post-operative office visits and answering any questions you may have at any time, day or night.

You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after your procedure since it requires anesthesia. For the remainder of the day, make sure to get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. You will also need to have an adult remain with you for the rest of the day in case you need assistance.

You will most likely experience some light bruising and swelling around the eyes for 1-2 weeks which should gradually subside as you heal. Depending on the details of your procedure, special dressings may be used and are typically removed a few days after surgery.

After 2 weeks, you will likely look and feel well enough to return to light daily activities, including work and social events. However, you will need to refrain from strenuous activity and exercise for about three weeks. In addition, you will need to avoid contact sports and other activities where you might suffer a blow to the nose until Dr. Ali and Dr. Tamir clear you to participate.

You should notice an improvement in the appearance of your nose shortly after your procedure, but your final results will not be visible until all swelling and bruising subside, and healing is completed. This can take up to twelve months.

Truly the best plastic surgeon in the valley! 10/10 would recommend for anyone considering Rhinoplasty!
