One of the reasons the breast augmentation procedure is so popular with women in the Scottsdale area is its customizability. There are a number of ways the procedure can be optimized to meet your specific needs and goals.
At Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery, we are committed to helping women achieve all of their aesthetic goals with the breast augmentation procedure. One of the many popular customization options is the location of the incision where your implants will be placed.
Our plastic surgeons use the inframammary incision with all patients. This post will explain why and run through all of the popular options so that you can gain a comprehensive understanding of your options as you conduct your research.
What Are My Implant Incision Options?
There are three main incision options if you’re considering a breast augmentation. Here are the pros and cons of each:
- Periareolar: With this option, the incision is made around the lower border of the areola. Many patients like this incision because any resulting scar is hidden by the natural border of the areola. The periareolar incision also results in a very precise breast pocket formulation, and this is the ideal incision option to address nipple inversion. However, there are drawbacks as well – this incision can result in a loss of nipple sensation, may impact breastfeeding and comes with an added risk of implant firmness.
- Transaxillary: The transaxillary incision places the incision in the fold of the armpit. This is a perfect option if your number one priority is an inconspicuous scar. Because of the location, there will, in fact, be no scar whatsoever on the breast itself. This is obviously appealing to many women. However, the transaxillary incision results in a scar that will be visible if you are wearing a bathing suit or low-cut gown, and there is an increased risk of uneven breast implant placement.
The final option is the one we use for all breast augmentation patients: the inframammary incision. With this option, the incision will be made near the lower breast fold. This is a tremendous option if you are looking for a truly inconspicuous augmentation experience – any resulting scar will be hidden from view regardless of what you are wearing. This incision also provides for the easiest and most controlled breast implant placement.
Furthermore, the inframammary incision minimizes bleeding and reduces the risk of complications. And since your safety is our number one priority, this is obviously a significant positive.
It has been our experience that the inframammary incision provides patients with the best and safest augmentation. We have come to this conclusion after performing breast augmentations in the Scottsdale area for decades. You can trust us to make the recommendations that achieve your goals while keeping you safe.
