Have you ever wanted to turn back the hands of time? Maybe you’re beginning to regret those years you went without sunblock? Fine lines, wrinkles and age spots are going to occur to all of us as we age, but they don’t have to be the end-all, be-all for our skin! Tighten skin, perfect pores and uncover the fountain of youth with a fractional CO2 laser treatment at Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery!
The fractional CO2 laser removes layers of the skin to help reduce age spots, wrinkles, scarring, uneven coloration, skin laxity, and dullness. The procedure ablates microscopic zones of tissue deep within the dermis and on the skin’s surface to leave bridges of unaffected skin so the regeneration process can begin.
This procedure is not for the faint of heart and can involve some risks, a pretty high price tag and some much-needed downtime. That being said, the benefits significantly outweigh the drawbacks in our opinion. After you’ve healed completely, you can expect to see a noticeable reduction in damaged and mature skin (i.e. less wrinkles, age spots, irregular texture, dullness, etc.).
The fractional CO2 laser is an in-office procedure that requires pre- and post-treatment prescription medication to warrant proper healing and comfort. During the treatment, our aesthetician may apply a topical anesthetic or inject local anesthetic to reduce discomfort. The level of irritation and pain is different for everyone, so you’ll want to consult your physician about any concerns you have or questions associated with your medical history.
After the treatment, your skin may feel like it has suffered a terrible sunburn. Redness, swelling, crusting and oozing are common side effects and usually subside within 7-8 days. After 7-14 days, you may still have some redness and swelling. This is normal, and can be covered up with a light makeup application.
As far as long-term care is concerned, you’ll want to limit your exposure to the sun and implement a strict skincare regimen to ensure optimal results. If you have a history of smoking or excessive drinking, you may not receive the full benefits from this treatment. Smoking and drinking hydrates your skin and accelerates the aging process. You will have undone much of the work put into the skin if you continue to smoke.
Some of the greatest perks are the skin’s continuous effort to improve. As mentioned previously, there is a long-term healing process involved, and you can expect to see significant improvements even after 6 to 8 months. This of course, all depends on your aftercare routine!
If you’re interested in receiving the fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment, schedule an appointment to consult with one of our physicians today! At its core, this treatment provides long-term anti-aging benefits and will (figuratively, of course!) turn back the hands of time.
