Woman in black bra holding breastsThere are three incision options that are routinely used for breast augmentation:

  • Periareolar. Around the nipple in the dark skin of the areola
  • Inframammary. Underneath the breasts in the crease between the chest and breast mound
  • Transaxillary. Through the armpit

At Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery, we have found that the inframammary incision offers the most benefit with the fewest drawbacks. With this incision option, Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and Dr. Tamir Mosharrafa are able to perform the entire procedure in direct view, helping to reduce risks of bleeding and other complications. Inframammary incisions also allow for the easiest placement of the breast implant under the muscles in the chest, which may further reduce risks and improve final aesthetics.

Inframammary incisions will not reduce nipple sensitivity or pose potential issues with breastfeeding. Nor will they be visible under most circumstances not even while wearing a bikini. During your initial consultation, we can answer any questions you have about this breast augmentation incision option to help you better understand why we feel it is the best choice for our patients.

Breast Implant Placement

As with incisions, there is more than one breast implant placement option. These are:

  • Subglandular. Below the breast mound, but above chest muscles
  • Submuscular. Below the chest muscles
  • Dual Plane. Partially above and partially below chest muscles

We have found that the submuscular breast implant placement works best for most women. This placement option removes the risks of visible implant imperfections by hiding the device entirely. Because the implant is underneath both breast tissue and chest muscles, the breast mound will continue to feel completely natural following subglandular placement and it may be easier to produce contours that are more complementary to your curves. There is some evidence that placement of breast implants below the muscles can also reduce risks for capsular contracture a painful but rare condition involving a scar in the implant pocket.

We offer subglandular placement under certain circumstances. During your initial consultation, we can discuss this in greater detail to help ensure we are doing what is best for your particular needs.

Back to Overview

A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming in so many ways. There are a lot of emotions. Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and his entire staff put me at ease at every step. After surgery, I was very self conscious, and the way I was treated with each visit helped me as much as the excellent medical care. Whether it is for an elective procedure or a surgery due to illness, I cannot endorse Dr. Ali more as a physician and human.
