What To Expect From Your Consultation

I’m Doctor Ali Mosharrafa, and I’d like to give you a flavor for what cosmetic consultations are like in our office. Let me explain the process to you.

When you first enter our office, you’re greeted by our front desk staff. They’re warm, friendly and inviting. After that, you’re going to see myself as I walk out and greet you in the waiting room, and I’ll take you back to my office to begin getting to know you. We talk about what your goals are, what your expectations are, what brought you into the office in the first place, and, most importantly, what you’re hoping to achieve through the Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery experience.

After that, I’ll walk you to the exam room and then we’ll do our physical examination. Obviously, it’s important to examine the area you’re concerned about thoroughly, properly, professionally, and thereafter go after your surgical options with you. I do all of that with you personally. And that’s a very important part of what separates us and our experience. At that time, we’ll have a surgical plan that we talk about, we’ll go over all the specifics about how the procedure is done, what’s involved in the recovery period, how it affects your family, your job, time away from those things, and what’s also required in terms of support from those loved ones.

After that, we’ll look at photographs. It’s also important that you get a realistic expectation about what to see or what to expect to see as a result of your surgery. So I’ll show you prior patient photographs, patients that have had similar experiences, similar surgeries, so you can, again, gain a better understanding of what your expectations should be. In fact, the most important part of the consultation is managing your expectations because that’s what dictates a pleasant and positive experience for you. If your expectations aren’t managed properly, that can lead to a very unhappy situation, and we do everything we can to avoid that possibility.

After all your questions are answered clinically, at that point you visit with our patient care coordinator. She goes over all the financial terms, and if any scheduling questions come up, she can also handle those for you. After the consultation – this is a very important point – our communication is not over. If you’re driving home and forgot to ask a question, pick up the phone and call me. If you get home and visit with your husband or wife and you need their input, or want to bring them back, I’m happy to visit with them too.
