ast month, the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) released their annual plastic surgery statistics from 2018, and, to no big surprise, breast augmentation found its way to the top of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures yet again. The extremely popular breast enhancement surgery topped its numbers the previous year with a staggering 313,735 procedures performed.

As the number of women choosing to undergo breast implant surgery continues to rise, our plastic surgery team is ready to answer any and all breast augmentation questions to help our patients make well-informed decisions and have the best experience possible. Some of the most common questions our breast augmentation patients have are about the recovery process, and what can be expected following breast surgery. Today we will focus on some of our top tips for relieving pain following breast augmentation.

At Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery, we want our breast augmentation patients to not only love their results, but to also have a safe, healthy, and overall rewarding experience. Our plastic surgeons, Drs. Ali and Tamir Mosharrafa are both board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and experts in performing natural-looking breast augmentations unique to each individual patient. Breast Augmentation Recover Tip #1: Rest Up! Don’t Push Yourself to Get Better

Following your breast enhancement, it can be easy to feel excited and anxious to enjoy your results. However, it is important to take it easy and rest! There will be plenty of time to get into your new bikini or hit the gym with that new workout gear, but the first few days after surgery are all about resting so your body can heal. Adequate rest will help to avoid excess swelling and pain, so use this time to read, catch up on your favorite TV shows, and get plenty of sleep. Each patient will experience the recovery period a bit differently, but as a baseline, we typically recommend about a week off work, and six weeks before getting back in the gym.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Tip #2: Wear Your Surgical Bra/Compression Bra

You will be given a postoperative surgical bra to be worn as soon as your surgery is completed. This is designed to provide compression support for the breasts as they heal, and will help to reduce swelling and minimize pain.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Tip #3: Follow Your Prescribed Pain Management

A pain medication schedule will be prescribed to you for the first few days following your surgery. Be sure to fill this prescription and follow the schedule carefully for optimal pain control during the initial days of healing. In most cases, over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen or Tylenol are more than enough to minimize any lingering pain or discomfort after a couple of days.

Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and Dr. Tamir Mosharrafa will provide you with detailed care instructions following your breast augmentation surgery. If at any point you are unsure of anything regarding your healing process, or if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call. As always, your well-being is our top priority!

Back to Overview

A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming in so many ways. There are a lot of emotions. Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and his entire staff put me at ease at every step. After surgery, I was very self conscious, and the way I was treated with each visit helped me as much as the excellent medical care. Whether it is for an elective procedure or a surgery due to illness, I cannot endorse Dr. Ali more as a physician and human.
