I’m Doctor Ali Mosharrafa. Let’s talk about what is the best placement for the breast augmentation incision.

Well, there are three choices. One is under the arm with a transaxillary incision. One is around the areola, or the periareolar incision. And one is underneath the breast which we call the inframammary incision.

My preference is the inframammary incision, which is underneath the breast, for these reasons. First of all, it’s the only location where anything you wear publicly will never show that scar. The underarm scar is visible, and an unsightly scar, that can be a problem for patients. The scar around the areola is visible to you when you’re looking in the mirror dressing each morning, whereas the inframammary scar is hidden from your view each morning. And then lastly, and most importantly, it’s the easiest way to do the surgery. What that means is that it presents the fewest complications. So my preference is the inframammary incision. It’s 3 centimeters long, just over an inch long, for all patients, and has, again, the easiest surgical approach, fewest complications, and is most well accepted by patients.

A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming in so many ways. There are a lot of emotions. Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and his entire staff put me at ease at every step. After surgery, I was very self conscious, and the way I was treated with each visit helped me as much as the excellent medical care. Whether it is for an elective procedure or a surgery due to illness, I cannot endorse Dr. Ali more as a physician and human.
