Lip Implants: The Permanent Solution

We are one of the few practices to offer lip implants. We use PermaLip® silicone implants, which are available in sizes ranging from 3mm to 5mm. Lip implants require a minor surgical procedure in which small incisions are made in the corners of the lips. The implants are then inserted through these incisions. The procedure takes only around 15 to 30 minutes and does not require general anesthesia.

If you are searching for a permanent way to increase the volume of your lips, implants may be the way to go. However, although PermaLip implants are removable, we suggest having injectable fillers done first to make sure you like the look of your new, bigger lips before committing to permanent implants.

You may be a good candidate for lip implants if you:

  • Have tried fillers and love how they look, and are now looking for a permanent treatment
  • Want a dramatic increase in size
  • Are more concerned about size than shape
  • Are willing to undergo a surgical procedure and around two weeks of recovery time

You will be able to resume your everyday activities the same day as your surgery, but you will experience swelling and limited mouth movement for around two weeks. We will prescribe medications to help with any pain or discomfort.

Injectable Lip Fillers for Subtle Enhancement or Shape Change

If you are nervous about having a surgical procedure or just want to “try on” a new lip look, injectable fillers may be right for you. Fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane can create a beautiful, subtle, and natural looking enhancement without the need for any incisions.

In addition, lip fillers can be used to help correct asymmetry or create a more pleasing shape in the lips. Fillers can be molded and shaped to a much higher level of detail than lip implants, which due to their nature can only be customized so far.

If you are looking for dramatic enhancement in size as well as subtle adjustments to shape, we can combine lip implants and lip fillers for a completely customized look.

Dermal fillers that we offer include:

  • Juvedern Ultra and Ultra Plus
  • Volbella
  • Voluma
  • Vollure
  • Belotero

Which particular filler is right for you will depend on your individual anatomy, concerns, and goals. Some fillers, like Voluma, are very thick and can create dramatically large lips. Others, such as Volbella, are much more subtle and natural, and are perfect for someone wanting a smaller change.

Ultimately, the skill of your injector is key in getting the results you want. Rather than researching each type of filler and deciding beforehand which one you want, let our experienced aesthetician guide you to the product she thinks will best accomplish your lip goals.

Cost of Lip Implants vs Lip Fillers

Lip enhancement procedures in Scottsdale, AZCost is often a factor when people are deciding between lip injections vs surgical lip implants. However, it should not be the main deciding factor. Lip implants and lip fillers offer different benefits, and one may be better for you over the other. If you decide to have lip implants to save money in the long run, but your main concern isn’t size but rather correcting asymmetry, then you may not be happy with your choice over the years.

That being said, there are differences in the cost breakdowns of each procedure. Lip implants will cost significantly more upfront, but they will last for a much longer time. Lip fillers cost less per session, but you will need to “touch up” your results every four to six months to maintain fullness and shape.

If you know for sure that you want to invest in lip implants but are concerned about the upfront costs, we do offer financing plans to help you afford the procedure. Talk to our patient coordinator after your consultation to learn about all your options, and we will help you with the paperwork and applications if you need it.

The BOTOX® “Lip Flip”

Another option that we offer for lip enhancement is the BOTOX® “lip flip”. This procedure uses BOTOX Cosmetic to relax specific muscles at the corners of the mouth. This allows the natural lip to roll gently outward, creating a plumper look without the need for fillers or implants. This treatment requires a high level of skill and experience for best results, as over-injecting could affect your lip muscles and make it difficult to speak or drink through a straw.

BOTOX® treatment of the lips lasts for around 3 months, after which you’ll need to have the treatment done again. You can discuss the benefits of BOTOX vs fillers during your consultation to see which one would be best for you. The lip flip can also be combined with fillers if needed.

Are Lip Enhancement Treatments Reversible?

If for some reason you decide you don’t like the look of your new lips, each treatment we offer is reversible. PermaLip implants can be taken out safely, and dermal fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. BOTOX® cannot be reversed, but it only lasts for around 3 months, so if you don’t like the look of it you just have to wait a little bit.

We recommend that you give your new lips a try for at least a month before deciding to reverse a procedure, though. Often, it can take a little while to adjust to your new look, especially if you decided on significantly larger lips. Plus, you will be swollen for the first two weeks, which is not what your final appearance will be. Don’t panic if your lips look much larger than you wanted or unnatural for the first week or so. This is only swelling, and will resolve naturally.

Back to Overview

A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming in so many ways. There are a lot of emotions. Dr. Ali Mosharrafa and his entire staff put me at ease at every step. After surgery, I was very self conscious, and the way I was treated with each visit helped me as much as the excellent medical care. Whether it is for an elective procedure or a surgery due to illness, I cannot endorse Dr. Ali more as a physician and human.
